Stephan Pfister is a Professor at ETH Zurich, where he leads the Ecological Systems Design group. His research focuses on the impact assessment of water consumption, land use, and biodiversity loss within Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Multi-Regional Input-Output Analysis (MRIO). Pfister's work is highly interdisciplinary, with applications across various sectors, including agriculture, forestry, material extraction, processing, and power production.
A key area of his research is the advancement of water footprint concepts, including future scenario analyses and the assessment of international trade's environmental impacts. Pfister received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2011 and completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at UC Santa Barbara. He has published over 100 original research papers, contributing significantly to the understanding and application of sustainability metrics in global supply chains.
