About the Workshop

The LCA and EPD Workshop at KAUST will convene international experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and academics to advance lifecycle thinking as a foundation for sustainable development in Saudi Arabia. The event will focus on integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) across key sectors, in alignment with ISO 14040/14044 for LCA and ISO 14025/EN 15804 for EPDs.

Participants will explore how LCA supports science-based decision-making and evidence-based policy, while EPDs enable transparent and standardized environmental communication across supply chains and global markets. The workshop will highlight the impact of advanced data analytics, including AI and machine learning, in improving the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of sustainability assessments.

Additionally, the program will address compliance and market-driven drivers, including EU CBAM and national climate policies, and showcase the emerging Saudi National Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) initiative. Through shared expertise and collaborative discussions, the workshop aims to strengthen national capacity, foster innovation, and position Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in lifecycle-based environmental management and product certification.
