PhD Student, Environmental Science and Engineering (Feb2025 - Present)

Biography

Haytham Salim is a Ph.D. candidate in Water Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), specializing in life cycle analysis of the hydrologic cycle and water efficiency under the supervision of Professor Sami Al-Ghamdi. His research focuses on developing methods to reduce carbon emissions in the water cycle industry, with a particular interest in sustainable urban water management and flood risk mitigation. Before joining KAUST, Haytham earned his Master’s in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Central Florida (2016) and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Umm Al-Qura University (2009). He also served as a Lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University, where he taught courses in hydraulics, water resources, and flood modeling, further deepening his expertise in sustainable water solutions.

Research Interests

Haytham research focuses on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the analysis of the hydrologic cycle and water efficiency. He is passionate about advancing urban sustainability through innovative water resource strategies, including green infrastructure, low-impact development, and climate-resilient flood modeling. His work integrates hydrological simulations with environmental impact assessments to optimize water systems for rapidly growing cities.
